2023 marks the 30th birthday of the Kia Sportage. The South Korean brand originally launched in the UK with one vehicle, the Kia Pride in 1991, before introducing the Kia Sportage in 1995.

Kia have gained themselves a reputation for build quality and reliability, while producing some of the most stylish vehicles on the market today.

To celebrate the 30th birthday of the Kia Sportage, we thought we’d take a look at all five generations of the brand’s flagship SUV.

First generation (1993-2003)

UK sales: 10,897

Originally launched in 1993, the Sportage was introduced to the UK in 1993, and was compared to the Toyota RAV4.

Second generation (2005-10)

UK sales: 23,371

The second generation was released after a 2 year hiatus. The car featured central locking, adjustable wing mirrors and a CD player, as well as more space in the rear.

Third generation (2010-16)

UK sales: 95,626

The third generation of Sportage was bulked up, featured a USB port and a remote key fob, and picked up a prestigious 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

Fifth generation (2022-Present)

Launched in 2022, the latest Kia Sportage picked up What Car? ‘Best Family SUV’.
