According to a new survey, 7 out of 10 people are unsure as to what terms such as range anxiety, PHC and supercharger actually mean. Furthermore, 24% of buyers have decided against buying a vehicle because they didn’t understand the terminology being used by the salesman.
From a survey of 2000 adults carried out by CarStore, 34% of those surveyed felt ‘out of their depth’ when discussing anything other than conventional petrol or diesel cars, with 54% not knowing what a PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) is, and only 24% knowing what BHP (brake horsepower) is.
Just under 6 out of 10 adults surveyed said that their lack of knowledge on such phrases impacts negatively on their confidence when buying a vehicle. As a result, 74% of buyers would take a friend who knows more about cars when they are considering buying, with Dad being the ‘expert’ of choice.
